On a dusty soccer pitch in Malindi, Kenya, Kalu is an aggressive young striker who dreams of playing professionally. A selfish player who knows he's destined for glory, he is a clear stand-out on his local team, the Sharks. Then one day his life changes dramatically. Kalu gets an offer to play for a second-tier South African team—on the same day that he is unknowingly exposed to the HIV virus, and his father is killed in a tragic accident. Kalu decides to accept the position, moves to Johannesburg and sends part of his salary to his mother and sister back home. But he quickly discovers that he is no longer a local hero, and meets resistance from his new teammates.
